Plant Origins
Mo makes a final exhausted leap toward the monster, his stylus sword ready to slash the head clean off. The monster blocks with its claws and deflects Mo’s attack sending him flying. Mid air Mo swipes above the head of the monster with his blade drawing a guillotine to come down on the monster’s neck.
Mo and the monster’s head falls to the ground simultaneously. Mo catches his breath. “Gross”
He walks towards the head and reaches down and the scalp opens up like a treasure chest revealing the monster’s large brain. Mo drops his sword and picks up the brain with both hands and walks a few feet away.
He stops in front of a hole in the ground then falls to his knees. Leaning forward he plops it in the ground and falls back with his hands on his lap. He closes his eyes, and takes a deep breath.
From the view of the brain, the sky slowly closes, and it becomes darker and darker until the last shimmer of light is snuffed out by soil.
”YOU DID IT! THAT WAS THE LAST OF EM! EXTINCT! WE’RE SAAVED!”
A man comes running and screaming from behind some trees in the distance toward Mo.
Mo says to himself “I wonder if this was the right thing to do…” The man tackles Mo with a warm embrace.
”You’re our hero!” The man says. He lets go of Mo and stares at him. “Now they’ll never walk again. But a small price to pay for the horrors they caused.” Tears began to roll off the man’s stone cold glare, “can you imagine…” he sniffles, “the very thing that keeps you alive is haunting you? The breaths of a vicious beast is directly synchronized with our own. Every exhale they release into the atmosphere, we inhale. What sort of creator conceives such an atrocity! We needed them to breathe for Grass’ sake! I know this seems inplantane to you… but this is the only way we could coexist. This war has gone on long enough. But in a way they are still alive…Burying their brains only suppresses their predator like instincts and all of their mobility. This one will grow like all the others…
Forever rooted to one place in the ground.”
Axle sprinkles small grounded up leaves and buds into his creased paper. He wraps it then rolls the paper up over on itself, attaching the adhesive side to the other end, sealing it shut. He takes his lighter, flicks it on and lightly crisps the entire joint from below. He places one end between his lips and flicks the lighter near the other end until it catches fire. A single dancing line of smoke rises from the burning end and Axle inhales…
With his eyes closed, his exhale clouds up the entire window sealed car…
Axle opens his eyes that are now glowing red. Him and another distorted voice simultaneously says “I’ve been waiting for this moment for forever.”

Something thuds on the hood of the car and Axle jumps. “What the fuck!” He opens the door allowing the cloud of smoke to escape. Axle looks over to where the sound came from and sees a boy in a sweater and shorts. “Yo i gotta stop smoking that shit dawg,” he says to himself then shouts towards Mo, “You alright kid?”
